Socializing Your Puppy

6/8/2020

Although dogs are generally friendly animals, there are many considerations that go into socializing. You might think that all you need is to find the right type of breed and everything will go smoothly. How you raise a dog has a very important role in the development of the dog's behavior, especially if you've had them since birth. From birth to the age of 3 or 4 months every experience will have an effect on the dog as an adult. Dogs that are trained from an early age to make friends with other dogs, humans, and new situations during this time will make dogs grow into animals that are confident, calm, and friendly. This process is known as the socialization process.

Puppies that are not socialized generally grow into shy and sensitive dogs. These dogs will have difficulty interacting. Fear that arises in dogs can be a trigger for aggression. A dog that has good socialization can also become less friendly if he is isolated when he is an adult. So with all this being said, how do you ensure a friendly dog personality?

1. Do not keep the puppy away from the mother and siblings before the age of 8 weeks. Interaction with the parent and sibling can teach puppies many things about socializing. If you remove them too early, there will be permanent damage to their socialization abilities.

2. Invite your dog to make friends with other dogs. Do activities that will help your dog learn how to get along with other dogs. For puppies, ask to play with other puppies. Thus the puppy will have experience playing so that it will increase their socialization instinct.

3. Create lots of opportunities for fun experiences with various people. Take your puppy for a walk so he or she can meet various people. If your dog is used to meeting a variety of people from an early age, it is unlikely that the dog will become aggressive later. The experts recommend inviting your puppy to participate in activities, such as gathering with other dog lovers. These activities are important to introduce your puppy to other people besides their owners and show them how to behave around humans.

Besides the tips above, you can also encourage your dog to make friends with neighboring dogs or people you know around your area of residence. Don't forget to let your dog stay in the house too! Dogs that live in the house together with humans will usually consider people who live in the house as part of their pack. The dog will also feel more comfortable hanging out with people and noise inside the house. Also, start familiarizing your dog with a variety of sounds and experiences. The sound of lawnmowers, vacuum cleaners, washing machines, and the like are types of sounds that are normally not liked by dogs because of how loud they are. Teach your dog to get used to them from an early age. Teaching puppies to be friendly with dogs and humans is the most important job as a dog owner. This keeps people safe around your dog and prevents your dog from becoming aggressive.

Why training your dog is so important

When it comes to dog training, the trainer plays a pivotal role in educating a canine

As a responsible pet owner, it is essential to train your furry friend. You might feel joyous to have such a nice company or even feel proud due to his/her obedience traits.  However, many people complain about sudden behavioral changes in their dogs.

Caution: Such changes, if not controlled, can lead to extreme stress.

Dogs are not humans. They think, act, and perform in a way different from ours, which shows why it is essential to train a dog. There are numerous reasons, mental and physical fitness being the most highlighted of all.

We bring you a list of the top five reasons to train your dog. Read till the end, who knows, you may find a gem!

#1 - Training Strengthens the Relation between Dog and Owner

Training not only helps owners to understand their pooches but also establishes a strong bond. You can engage your dog in healthy activities such as teaching them funny tricks or playing with them. Dogs love to enjoy during training sessions; if the overall experience goes well, it will be mutually helpful.

Make training a part of their routine and teach them basic obedience commands. It can be challenging in the beginning, but you will see quick and productive results in no time. Don't forget to give them a lot of treats and toys as a reward! Use words of encouragement to engage them throughout the training sessions. Your dog expects love and affection from you; in return, he/she will learn all the commands.

#2 - Training Helps Increase Sociability

If you want your canine to obey, respect, and show good behavior in social situations, you must train them properly. When a dog interacts with other dogs or people, it must behave politely. Social obedience training includes no begging, no jumping on others, staying calm, not being aggressive when surrounded by strangers. This way, it becomes easy for everyone to be with your dog.

Additionally, you will also feel comfortable while taking them along with you. More people and places will accept your dog just because of these social skills. Once your dog learns the art of interaction, they will enjoy confronting social experiences and will feel relaxed even if among a crowd of strangers. A friendly dog is a sociable dog.

#3 - Training Prevents Behavioral Issues

Picture
A dog is a social animal. Training them right from the date of adoption or childhood can be a plus for both owners and dogs. The time you invest teaching and the way of communication matters a lot. Obviously, they don't know how to live in the human world. What if you leave them alone for 2-3 hours and find everything cluttered upon return? They might chew up your valuables or continue barking when left alone?

In order to overcome such behavioral problems, positive reinforcement is crucial. Training allows them to behave well while staying in a good state of mind. Dogs also learn to deal with high pressure situations. Loosening the leash often results in misbehavior. Obedience training ensures good manners in every situation. Training, along with exercise, also reduces stress, keeping your pooch both mentally and physically relaxed.

Wrapping up

Don't forget that dog training should be an encouraging and positive activity. Add Fun to training sessions. Owners are recommended to take lots of treats, chews, and toys with them. Praising your canine companion now and then motivates them for better learning.

Dog training is a slow process. Even if you're able and willing to do it. it's better to hire a professional trainer. It is always advisable to contact a trainer to help your pal right from the start. Specialized assistance takes the training to an entirely new level!
